01 The process
Five steps, no jargon.
Understand
Work out what’s actually required before jumping into development.
Together we look at the real workflow, the systems involved and what “better” looks like. For larger pieces of work this can be a small, separately quoted discovery phase.
Build
Design and implement the solution, with regular feedback.
You see working progress early and often, so there are no surprises at the end and it’s easy to adjust course.
Launch
Deploy it and make sure it works in the real environment.
Hosting, domains, data and deployment are all handled, and the launch is checked against how you actually use it.
Support
Keep it hosted, maintained and improving, if you want to.
Updates, monitoring, fixes and new features from the person who built it. Or a clean handover, if you’d rather run it yourself.
02 Starting small
Not sure yet? Start with discovery.
For anything beyond a straightforward website, it often makes sense to begin with a short, separately quoted piece of discovery work. I look at the problem, the current process and any existing systems, then recommend a practical way forward with a clearer idea of cost.
You come away with something useful either way, and you’re under no obligation to go further. Sometimes the honest answer is a small change, an existing product or no new software at all.
03 Working together
Ways to work together.
Work doesn’t have to be a big project. It can be a short investigation, some technical advice, a fix or extension to an existing application or a small automation, through to a complete application with hosting and ongoing support. Pricing depends on the work, so it’s quoted rather than published.
Discovery
A small, fixed piece of work to understand the problem and recommend a way forward, before you commit to anything larger.
Fixed-price projects
For well-defined work such as a website or a specific application, quoted up front once the requirements are clear.
Day-rate consultancy
For investigation, architecture advice, prototypes or working alongside your existing team.
Maintenance & support
Ongoing updates, fixes and improvements for systems that WorthIT Solutions built, or ones it has taken on.
Managed hosting
Hosting, monitoring, backups and domains handled for you, with someone who knows the system keeping an eye on it.
Retained development
A regular allocation of development time for businesses with an ongoing flow of improvements.
04 Questions
Common questions.
Do I need to know what technology I need?
No. Describe what you’re trying to achieve or what isn’t working. Choosing the technology is my job, and I’ll explain the options in plain English.
Can you work on software someone else built?
Yes. Getting to know an existing codebase, fixing it and extending it is a large part of what I do, including older .NET applications.
Can you work alongside our existing developers?
Yes. That might be investigating a specific problem, advising on architecture, prototyping something new or adding capacity for a while.
What happens after launch?
That’s up to you. WorthIT Solutions can host, monitor and maintain what it builds, or hand it over cleanly with documentation if you’d prefer to run it yourself.
How is work priced?
It depends on the work: fixed prices for well-defined projects, day rates for consultancy, and ongoing arrangements for hosting and support. For anything substantial, a small discovery phase can be quoted first.
Do you only work with UK businesses?
WorthIT Solutions is based in the UK and most work is done remotely, so location is rarely a barrier. Get in touch and we can discuss it.
