Services

From a first website to the systems your business runs on.

Six areas of work, often combined. Many projects start in one place and grow: a website that needs a booking system, or an automation that becomes a proper application. You don’t need to know which box you fit in.

01

Websites

A website should do more than exist. Whether you need a clear, fast site that explains what you do, or one with booking, enquiries or integrations built in, it can be designed and built around how your business actually works, then hosted and looked after.

Typical work

  • Responsive design that works properly on phones
  • Contact and enquiry forms that reach the right person
  • Help shaping and structuring the content
  • Integrations with the tools you already use
  • Privacy-conscious analytics
  • Hosting, domain and DNS set-up
  • Ongoing updates and maintenance
02

Web applications

Sometimes the software you need doesn’t exist, or the packages that do exist force you to work their way instead of yours. A custom web application can fit your process exactly, and grow with it.

Typical work

  • Customer portals
  • Admin and back-office systems
  • Dashboards and reporting
  • Booking and scheduling systems
  • Workflow and approval tools
  • Data entry that replaces spreadsheets
  • Bespoke business applications
03

Automation & integration

If information gets copied between spreadsheets, re-typed into another system and then emailed to someone, that work can usually be automated. Systems that don’t talk to each other can usually be connected. AI can help where it genuinely suits the job, and be left out where it doesn’t.

Typical work

  • API development and integration
  • Workflow automation
  • Scheduled processing and reports
  • Notifications and alerts
  • Data synchronisation between systems
  • AI-assisted workflows, where they make sense
04

Existing software & modernisation

Plenty of valuable software isn’t new, and being older is no reason on its own to replace it. I start by understanding how an existing system works and why it was built that way, then fix, extend or modernise it in careful steps, without an unnecessary rewrite.

Typical work

  • Bug fixing and investigation
  • New functionality in mature applications
  • Legacy software modernisation, one part at a time
  • Upgrades for .NET, VB.NET, ASP.NET, MVC and WCF applications
  • Connecting older systems with newer ones
  • Performance improvements
  • Architecture review and advice
05

Hosting & support

Launch day is the start, not the end. The same person who built your system can deploy it, host it, keep an eye on it and keep improving it, so you always have someone who knows how it works.

Typical work

  • Deployment and release pipelines
  • Cloud hosting, typically on Microsoft Azure
  • Monitoring and alerting
  • Security and dependency updates
  • Backups, where appropriate
  • Domain and DNS configuration
  • Ongoing maintenance, improvements and technical support
06

Consultancy

Sometimes you know the problem but not the solution. A short piece of discovery work means looking at your current systems and process, understanding what’s really needed, and recommending something proportionate, even if that turns out to be “you don’t need anything new”.

Typical work

  • Discovery and problem investigation
  • Reviewing existing systems and processes
  • Architecture and technology advice
  • Prototypes and proofs of concept
  • Working alongside an existing development team

Small discovery work can be quoted on its own before you commit to a larger project.

Not sure which of these you need?

That’s normal. Describe what you’re trying to achieve or what’s getting in the way, and I’ll suggest a sensible approach.
